The North 40

Last week, for the first time, I ventured into the North 40.  Forty acres of property which is next to our house, which is somehow preserved, or reserved as some combination of private land, available for townspeople to use.  They grow hay, and have a couple of horses, so we found out having walked down the grassy road, between two stone-walls, through the woods and up to the field where the horses were grazing.  All of a sudden the idea of carefully closing the gate behind us seemed more important.  It feels like a bit of pre-revolutionary war New England preserved.

Starting to hang pictures

I'm always amazed at how different paintings look in different contexts, under different lights, in frames and not in frames.  Over the years a few paintings rise to the top as all time keepers while
others rise and fall.  These two have been around a while, and I'm pretty fond of them.

Our first snowy morning in the new house

We moved in, went to sleep among the myriad of boxes piled so high I had to climb over them to take this picture of the Barn. Potential Studio.  Turquoise?  Yes. Soon.

Aretha Franklin at Radio City Music Hall - - is in the Theater

My daughter brought me to Radio City Music Hall a couple of weeks ago to see Aretha Franklin.  How great is that?  How great is the name 'Radio City'?  How great is the concept of a 'Music Hall'.  And how great is Radio City Music Hall.  Best venue ever.  And Miss Aretha was amazing.  Her piano playing filled the hall and she sang almost two hours straight.  Best was this guy, who came on stage, right after she'd left to pick up the enormous hand-bag she'd left under the piano.  Then he brought it back.  Then after the last curtain call (RESPECT), he came back on and fetched it again.   So cool.
